The 22 Immutable Laws of Word of Mouth Marketing

22immutablelawsofwordofmouthmarketing_2  Having grown up as a tier one consumer packaged goods marketer,  I became a loyal follower of books by Trout & Ries on Positioning, Marketing Warfare and Bottom Up Marketing. Their thinking was unclouded, the examples they turned to for support  were perfect and their writing was  sharp and pointed. Without their wisdom, I would have never survived and battled in 7 years of P&G brand management (defending against oftentimes brilliant but sometimes archaic marketing thinking).

One book in particular was quite formative...The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing. I still have my Post-It crib notes in the inside pocket of the book I purchased more than 10 years ago....and some of the laws considered revolutionary at the time are now finally being accepted by the mainstream - Law #10 - The Law of Division, #13 - The Law of Sacrifice, #15 - The Law of Candor, #18 - The Law of Success and #20 - The Law of Hype are as true today as they were in 1993 when I bought the book as a neophyte assistant brand manager.

It's with as much respect for the book as it is a consequence that the marketing world has gone from being flat to round in the last 13 years that I present The 22 Immutable Laws of Word of Mouth Marketing  - the conditions in place that make for word of mouth success.
