CTS TV: God Has a Sense of Humour Too
I know there will be some people that don't like God in their face when they're driving or walking about, regardless of context or creativity, but I thought this was a good effort by CTS TV.
Granted most of their programming is painful to watch and quite patronizing, but I'm glad somebody within their world is loosening up on the "fear of God" reins.
If the church would see itself as a facilitator of conversation not the voice upon high, they might not see such large dips in attendance and disenchantment of its youngest members.
Other things they might want to consider:
- theme their service times by type of music - Rock Music Fridays, Country & Western Sunday 9am, Pop 10:30am and Classical 12pm might appeal to a broader following
- use some type of audio-visual, if there is a Swedish company making the New Testament into a cartoon, surely a priest can zip through a powerpoint during his sermon
- provide a pleasant surprise - maybe every 100th person coming up to communion gets an additional gift
- get people to do stuff not just sit there - it is incredibly difficult for anybody to stay in their seat for more than 20 minutes and not do something interactive - perhaps install polling devices in the pews and have the congregation wage in on the questions of the day
- have a blog, have a website, build a social network, televise your services so the sick, infirm or travelling so they can watch you...essentially move from the year 1608 to 2008 technologically
- oh that whole let married men and women be priests, strike me down for saying this, kind of a really good idea for diversity reasons, but inevitably, churches will have to let this happen as there won't be enough priests to go around
