It's confirmed, I know...the diagnosis is true and it's almost impossible to put into recession...I'm in love with Craigslist. How can something so minimalist in its design and some might say aspirations , stoke the involvement and curiosity of a dyed-in-the-wool marketer? I don't care--my love for this delectable heaven of a classified is an absolute joy.
I've managed to sell 3 tables on Craigslist (I know, weird - more about that in another blog article in the future either called "The Circle of Life: Furniture Edition" or "MY Style-Happy Wife'). I also recently placed a casting call for well-connected Canadian writers and received over 250 responses (yes, i'm sorry writers but it does take a surprisingly long time to get back to all of you!).
Some interesting stats below from Church of the Customer on this community-based wunderkind...as well as a quote from Canada's media gift to the world Mcluhan:
\Marshall McLuhan, writing in 1963-64 for his book, "Understanding Media:"
"The classified ads (and stock market quotations) are the bedrock of the press. Should an alternative form of easy access to such diverse daily information be found, the press will fold."
The alternative Craigslist in 2006 and its easy access to daily information (via Pew):
- 10 million new classified ads per month
- 500,000 new job listings per month
- 4 billion page views per month
- 10 million unique visitors per month
- Seventh overall among Internet companies
- Staff of 21 people
Newspapers haven't completely folded yet, although several press towers have fallen.
McLuhan forecast so much of what's still true, and what's changing 40 years later in media, that it's simply remarkable.
love it, love it, love it..thank you craig!
