Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in purgotory between the zealous social media activists who cram in Third Tuesdays and wait for religion to happen in a big Web 2.0 entrance and the well-intentioned but aloof marketeers, agency creative and media planners who at best pray that if the cult of social media does happen in a big way, it at least appears in somebody else's backyard first.
I'm a straddler - the Joe Lieberman of modern marketers, The Belinda Stronach of service firms - 13 years in big Fortune 500 marketing jobs and 3 years as a trailblazing "word of mouth" rainmaker - I now sell in social media in a traditional media world on a daily basis.

79% of marketers aren’t even aware of the term Web 2.0.
Yikes, at that rate, it would appear this social media cult needs a little less Kool-Aid and a few more evangelists if it's ever going to be considered a serious church.
